Missing New Windsor Woman, 23, Found After Horrific Death

A 23 year-old New Windsor woman who went missing on Sunday was sadly found deceased in the bottom of a pond on Monday following a car accident that nobody knew she was involved in.

Katherine Garcia had been last seen by her friends at a residence in Beekman in Dutchess County late on Saturday night. Garcia’s cousin reported that she had been missing since 3:30 am on Sunday and believed she was on her way home to her Judd Circle residence in New Windsor.

Frantic family members put out reports that Garcia was missing. She was reported to be driving a black Hyundai Tucson. She was described as 5’2″, 150 pounds, and last seen wearing a red dress.

Numerous family members went out to begin looking for Garcia. They were joined by family friend Ramon Velez, a NYPD detective, and his wife Lourdes. They continued searching until Garcia was found.

While searching for her, a vehicle was discovered submerged in water off the Taconic State Parkway in the Town of Fishkill, according to the New York State Police. Garcia was found deceased. She was the only occupant inside the vehicle.

She almost made it to Interstate 84, which is generally more traveled and safer than the notorious Taconic Parkway. According to police, the accident occurred just next to the Interstate 84 and Taconic Parkway interchange. Police are investigating the cause of the accident.

The young woman leaves behind her parents, a twin sister, numerous siblings, and a large extended family. Her full obituary can be seen here.
