New York State Assemblyman-elect Chris Eachus will start off the new year with an inauguration ceremony held in New Windsor this weekend. In a perfect scenario of where every vote mattered, Eachus won the election by eight votes.
Eachus will be inaugurated as the new Assemblyman representing the State’s 99th District. The event will be held on Sunday, January 1, 2023 at 10:00am at the New Windsor Community Center. The event is open to the public and lunch will be served following his inauguration.
Eachus, a Democrat, won a close election versus Republican contender Kathryn Luciani. Following Election Day, the unofficial results were so close that officials conducted a recount. According to Eachus, every paper ballot was hand counted.
The New York State Board of Elections certified the election results on December 15, 2022. Eachus collected 18,539 votes to Luciani’s 18,531 votes, according to the Board of Elections.
The Assembly District encompasses a small part of Rockland County, where Luciani received 3,940 votes to Eachus’ 1,889 votes. In Orange County, Eachus rallied 16,650 votes while Luciani racked up 14,591 votes.
