A Maybrook man was killed and a Maybrook woman is in critical condition following a horrific accident on the Palisades Parkway yesterday that mangled their vehicle.
Off-duty NYPD Officer Bernadine Ramtahal-Thomas, age 34 from Maybrook, was reportedly driving a 2021 Hyundai SUV northbound on the Palisades Parkway in Haverstraw when her vehicle left the roadway and crashed into a tree, according to the New York State Police. The accident occurred at approximately 3:00am on Sunday, February 26, 2023.
The New York State Police, two fire departments, and multiple ambulance corps all responded to the scene. First responders arrived to find a white SUV in the grass median split in half.
Ramtahal-Thomas was rushed to a local hospital and is listed in critical condition.
The passenger in the vehicle, who police identified as Chevy Thomas, age 36 of Maybrook, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Police are continuing to investigate why the vehicle left the roadway.
