Police Identify Man Killed on I-84 During Snow Storm

The New York State Police has confirmed that a man lost his life while driving along Interstate 84 in western Orange County during the snow storm last night (story here). His dog was saved.

The driver has been identified as Timothy J. Suer, age 69 of Lancaster, Ohio. His mother passed away just two months ago.

At approximately 6:40pm last night – Thursday, December 15, 2022, emergency services were dispatched to a tractor trailer crash along the eastbound lanes of Interstate 84 between Exits 1 and 2.

Suer was traveling down the Greenville Mountain operating a 2014 Freightliner tractor trailer during a snow storm. According to police, a preliminary investigation revealed that Suer’s truck exited the roadway and crashed into a ditch on the southeast shoulder of the highway. The truck then struck a guide wire, jackknifed, hit a tree, and came to a rest.

Suer was found deceased in the driver’s seat while still wearing his seatbelt, police said. The Mountain View Fire Department removed him from the cab of the truck after responding and attempting to save his life.

Troopers discovered a small brown dog still alive in the cab of the truck. The dog was turned over to the Town of Deerpark Dog Warden.

The cause of the accident is under investigation.
