Multiple people were injured and some were airlifted in serious condition after a wall collapsed in the food court at the Resorts World Casino in Sullivan County.
Several fire departments, ambulances, and law enforcement agencies rushed to the scene of the collapse yesterday afternoon. The incident commander declared it a mass casualty incident.
First responders scrambled inside of the building and rescued multiple patients from the rubble. Patients were taken out of the building on stretchers and loaded into lines of waiting ambulances or medevac helicopters, depending on the seriousness of their injuries.
The wall that collapsed reportedly consisted of glass and blocks. The total number of patients has not yet been released.
Resorts World Catskills has been plagued with bad reviews on numerous sites such as Yelp in recent years. Countless customers have complained about filthy conditions and lack of maintenance throughout the resort.
Resorts World owns a small chain of casinos across the world. This is not the embattled company’s first incident with a collapse inside one of their resorts. Four years ago, multiple people were injured with a ceiling collapsed in a Resorts World casino in Asia.
Meanwhile, following yesterday’s collapsed, Resorts World issued a statement insisting customer safety is their top concern.
