Take a Bite Out of Crime: Get Out and Vote

The United States Constitution is the supreme law of the land. It was intended to create a government of the people, by the people, and for the people. Unfortunately, in a lawless society, most laws fall by the wayside and are ignored. The Constitution was written by “we the people.” We the people are becoming angry with some of those we have chosen to represent us.

Like it or not, the Constitution must be followed just like any other laws. If enough people disagree with it, there is a process to follow to amend it. Until that happens, the Constitution must be followed verbatim. It is the law.

Some elected officials have showed complete and utter disdain and hatred for the citizens who oppose them. They forget they are fellow citizens who represent us – we are not here for their convenience. Some have even escalated to anti-Constitution and pro-crime stances. This is when anarchy takes over our neighborhoods. Lawless streets have become a common occurrence across New York State as depicted by constant news stories on a daily basis.

Many aspects of the Constitution have been under recent attack. The First Amendment has drawn ire from some politicians locally and nationally when citizens speaking at council meetings verbally challenge our representatives. The First Amendment not only mandates the right to free speech, it also permits citizens the right to redress our elected officials.

The Eighth Amendment of the Constitution allows bail to be set for criminals, although not excessive. As such, a middle ground must be found. Nowhere does it state that dangerous suspects should be set free without bail.

As Americans, we have a right to be safe in our homes and in public. In fact, we demand it. If any elected official disagrees with this and instead chooses to advocate for crime, they should be tossed in jail for aiding and abetting crime. America is turning into a third world nation where anarchy meets tyranny.

During a recent televised debate, New York State Governor Kathy Hochul was asked about crime. Her response: “I don’t know why that’s so important to you.” This is the very logic that has created the lawless society that we now live in.

The high levels of crime and those who support it has become one of the top issues among statewide voters. This is something that has the potential to impact all New York residents. We deserve to feel safe in our environment – and we demand it.

Among other key issues facing upcoming elections for various political seats are high inflation rates, high gas and oil prices, immigration, and abortion.

With Election Day turning into Election Month, we urge all residents to head out and vote. Regardless of the candidate or political party a voter chooses to support, every vote counts.

We must send a message to our politicians that our laws are in place for a reason and they must be followed.
