Alleged Drunk Driver with Child Hits Police Car During Another DWI Stop

These knuckleheads picked the wrong place to allegedly drive drunk.

A Middletown man was accused of drunk driving with a 3 year-old child in his car after slamming into the back of a New York State Police cruiser and injuring two troopers. The police were in the process of completing an arrest for another drunk driver at the time.

The chaos unfolded at around 5:00am Sunday on the Palisades Parkway near Stony Point. Troopers stopped approached a vehicle which was stopped on the side of the road and determined the driver was impaired by alcohol. She was subsequently arrested for Driving While Intoxicated and transported to the State Police barracks by another trooper.

While the State Police car was stopped with its emergency lights on waiting for the drunk woman’s vehicle to be towed, Troopers were struck from behind by a 2001 Mazda, driven by Donald Bolling, age 44 from Middletown.

Troopers determined that Bolling, age 44 from Middletown, was impaired by alcohol while traveling with a three year-old child. Police said he had a blood alcohol content of .12%. This was not his first time being charged with drunk driving.

Bolling was arrested and charged with Aggravated DWI under Leandra’s Law, Driving While Intoxicated with a Previous Conviction in 10 years, and Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle in the 1st degree, all felonies. He was also charged with Using a Vehicle without an Interlock, Endangering the Welfare of a Child, and Reckless Driving, all misdemeanors. He was additionally issued 13 traffic tickets.

Bolling was arraigned in the Town of Stony Point Court in front of Judge Franks and remanded to Rockland County Jail without bail. He was scheduled to reappear on September 29, 2022 at 10:30am.

Both troopers sustained minor injuries. They were treated and released from Nyack Hospital. Bolling and the child were not injured.
