One person is dead and two others are in critical condition following a drowning in White Lake in Sullivan County yesterday.
The New York State Police and a dive team from the Bethel Fire Department responded to White Lake in the Town of Bethel at approximately 2:15 pm yesterday for a report of three people who went underwater and did not resurface.
A preliminary investigation by first responders revealed that a family from Bellerose, NY began swimming in the lake at approximately 10:00 am. At around 2:00 pm, Basir Amin, age 18, began to struggle in the deep portion of the lake. His sister, Nasrin Amin, age 21, and his uncle, Afrid Haider, age 34, attempt to assist him.
As a result, all three individuals went underwater and did not resurface. They were all recovered by divers. All three of the victims were underwater for a lengthy period of time.
First responders immediately began life-saving measures. All three victims were rushed to Garnet Medical in Harris, NY.
Basir Amin was pronounced deceased. Nasrin Amir and Afrid Haider are both listed in critical condition.
