Crook Swings Axe at Resident During Drunken Home Invasion

Perhaps this man was so drunk that he thought he was Jack Nicholson carrying out a scene from The Shining.

A drunken crook broke into a house, swung an axe at the homeowner, was forcibly removed, and tried to break in again, the New York State Police announced today.

At approximately 8:50 pm last night, troopers responded to a residence on Mohwak Trail in the Town of Bethel for a reported burglary and assault in progress. Troopers arrived and identified the alleged culprit as Daniel Desseauve, age 38 from the Town of Highland.

Police determined that Desseauve approached a house with a pick axe, pushed the front door open, and began swinging the axe at the homeowner. The homeowner was reportedly able to prevent Desseauve from striking him. The bold homeowner then forcibly removed the creep from his house.

The crook clearly did not get the message to leave. Instead, Desseauve reportedly continued his violent conduct and re-entered the house. He then allegedly caused significant damage to two vehicles that were parked at the residence.

Another person in the home called 911 while all this was occurring. Troopers said they arrived and found Desseauve standing near his own vehicle. While speaking with the suspect, police determined he was drunk.

Troopers arrested Desseauve and charged him with Burglary in the 1st degree, Criminal Mischief in the 3rd degree, and Driving While Intoxicated, all felonies; Menacing in the 2nd degree and Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 2nd degree, both misdemeanors; and Harassment in the 2nd degree, a violation.

Desseauve was arraigned before Judge Johnstone in the Town of Liberty Court. He was remanded to Sullivan County Jail in lieu of $75,000 cash, $150,000 bond, or $300,000 secured bond.

The alleged intoxicated invader is no stranger to the law.

According to public records, Desseauve was sentenced to 11 to 23 months in the Pike County Jail in Pennsylvania in 2018. His time in the slammer stemmed from him receiving stolen property from a retail store in Westfall Township, PA two days after Christmas. He allegedly received four computers and five vacuum cleaners knowing that they had been stolen from the store.
