Career Criminal Fights with Cop at Newburgh Walmart

A career criminal was arrested after fighting with a police officer while allegedly stealing from the Walmart in Newburgh yesterday. The crook then won a free release without bail.

It all started at approximately 12:57pm on Thursday, March 23, 2023, when the Town of Newburgh Police Department was dispatched to the Newburgh Walmart on Route 300 for a report of a larceny in progress. The suspect was also actively fighting with a police officer.

The New Windsor Police Department, New York State Police, and Orange County Sheriff’s Office all rushed to the scene after hearing a police officer was in trouble. Officers arrived and apprehended Jeffrey Odom, age 33 of Newburgh.

The Town of Newburgh Police Department said they are familiar with Odom because he committed 12 previous larcenies in less than three months. During those incidents, he either fled from police or was arrested.

In addition, police said Odom has 10 open charges from previous incidents where he fled after stealing from Walmart, Target, and Market 32 in the Town of Newburgh.

A female suspect accompanied Odom during the alleged crime at Walmart, but she fled the scene while Odom was being arrested. She is wanted for questioning in several other larcenies that Odom allegedly committed.

Odom was arrested yesterday afternoon and charged with four counts of Burglary in the 3rd degree and eight counts of Petit Larceny. He was then taken for arraignment in front of Town of Monroe Judge McKnight.

Judge McKnight set a future court date and released Odom without bail.
