A former City of Newburgh Councilman has announced his candidacy to run for mayor against incumbent Torrance Harvey.
John Giudice, a Republican, will likely face Harvey, a Democrat, in this November’s election for the City of Newburgh Mayor. Harvey has filled the seat since 2018. Giudice was a Councilman from 1987 through 1995.
Giudice made the announcement in front of Rockland Bakery on Broadway today. Running with him will be Don Rehrey, Jr. for Councilman.
Giudice and Rehrey both said the new parking meters on Broadway are driving business away from the City of Newburgh. They also addressed the increased rates for water, sewer, and sanitation. They also pledged to work to give better pay to the police and firefighters.
For the Democrats, current Councilman Omari Shakur, former Councilwoman Gay Lee, Bryan Luna, RD McLymore, Anusha Mehar, Ali Muhammad, and Odirlei Thomaz are all in the ring to become a Councilmember.
