Building Fire in City of Newburgh Prompts Response from Two Counties

Firefighters from multiple companies worked through the night battling a two-alarm fire at a three-story building in the City of Newburgh.

At approximately 2:15am on Sunday, February 26, 2023, the City of Newburgh Fire Department responded to a report of a building on fire at 87 City Terrace, located diagonally across from the rear of the parking garage at St. Luke’s Hospital. The building contains six bedrooms and had an estimated value of $246,000.

The incident commander arrived on the scene to find heavy fire blowing out the windows of the third floor. He transmitted a second alarm.

The Vail’s Gate, Middlehope, and Cronomer Valley Fire Departments were all called to assist, but all three companies stated they were unable to fulfill their assignments.

The Air National Guard Fire Department from Stewart Airport and the West Point Fire Department both responded to the scene with pumpers. Mobile Life Support Services was called to the scene to standby in case anyone was injured. The City of Newburgh Police Department assisted with crowd and traffic control.

The Castle Point Fire Department from Dutchess County, along with the Coldenham Fire Department, stood by to cover any additional calls in the City of Newburgh.

The building was reportedly occupied when firefighters arrived. There is no word of injuries. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
