Numerous local fire departments rushed into Washingtonville and saved a house that was on fire this morning.
The Washingtonville Fire Department was initially dispatched to a house fire at 1 Fountayne Court at approximately 10:30 a.m. The street is located just west of St. Mary’s Church.
The 2,467 square foot house, which contains four bedrooms, was purchased by new owners just seven months ago for $569,000. Firefighters quickly contained and knocked down the fire.
The incident commander arrived on the scene and transmitted a second alarm, summonsing additional help from numerous local fire departments.
The Vail’s Gate Fire Department hurried into Washingtonville with a ladder truck as well as a FAST Team, which is a specially trained group of firefighters tasked with a rescuing any other firefighters who become trapped inside. The Coldenham Fire Department also responded with a FAST Team.
The Campbell Hall Fire Department was dispatched with a pumper to operate a fill site away from the fireground. Due to a lack of water in the area, the fill site was established to pump water from a source into tanker trucks, which in turn shuttled water to the scene. That water was then dumped into pumper trucks to supply the firefighters’ hoses.
The Salisbury Mills Fire Department was called with two tanker trucks to assist in shuttling water back and forth to the scene. The Maybrook Fire Department also responded with a tanker. The Goshen and South Blooming Grove Fire Departments responded with one engine apiece.
Blooming Grove Emergency Medical Services responded and staged at the scene in case any firefighters were injured. There has been no word of any injuries.
The Cornwall Fire Department stood by in Washingtonville to cover any additional calls.
The cause of the fire has not yet been revealed.
