The National Weather Service has issued Wind Advisories for portions of the Hudson Valley, effective through tonight.
Although Orange County is not listed under an advisory since top gusts are expected to fall slightly below the criteria, winds are expected to gust to 40-45 mph across Orange County this afternoon. The gusty winds will be accompanied by periods of wind-driven rain showers.
Adjacent, Ulster, Dutchess, and Sullivan Counties are under a Wind Advisory until 9:00pm tonight. The National Weather Service forecasts sustained winds of 15-25 mph with gusts to 50 mph. Winds are expected to start out from the south before shifting and coming from the west.
Some power outages are possible across the region, the National Weather Service cautions. Winds are forecast to be the strongest into the early evening as a strong cold front crosses the area.
A mesonet weather tower perched atop Mount Beacon has already recorded a wind gust of 28 mph this morning before the main wind event has even begun.
