The season’s first snowfall came and went last night as temperatures hovered just above the freezing mark.
Light, steady snow began overspreading the area just after sunset last night – Tuesday, November 15, 2022. The snow began mixing with sleet in some areas after 9:00pm before turning to plain rain during the overnight areas. By daybreak, there was barely any indication that it had snowed.
In Orange County, general snowfall totals ranged from one to two inches. Most of the snow accumulated on grassy surfaces, leaving a light glaze of slush on the area roadways. It melted after the snow turned to rain overnight.
In Ulster County, snowfall totals ranged from one to four inches, depending on the location. According to the National Weather Service in Albany, the Olivebridge and Phoenecia areas west of Kingston received 3″ of snow – the highest totals in the county. Shandaken, not far away from the aforementioned towns, only received 1.5″ of snow.
In Dutchess County, Red Hook logged 1.8″ of snow, the county’s top amount, according to the National Weather Service. Poughkeepsie received just 0.8″ of snow.
In Sullivan County, the National Weather Service in Binghamton reported two to three inches. Kiamesha, just outside of Monticello, saw 2.4″ of snow. Callicoon saw 3″ of snow.
Further north, Hamilton County received 5″ of snow while Oneida County recorded 4″ of snow, which were the area’s top snowfall amounts.
Meanwhile, a deep freeze will linger over the Newburgh area during the overnight periods throughout the next week ahead. Temperatures will drop into the upper 20s every night during the remainder of the week. On Saturday and Sunday nights, temperatures are forecast to drop into the low 20s. For the start of next week, overnight temperatures will continue dipping into the upper 20s.
