The National Weather Service in Upton, NY has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook for moderate to locally heavy rains and gusty winds later this week.
An approaching cold front on Thursday will result in widespread moderate to heavy rain, along with gusty winds, the outlook explains. A widespread amount of 1″ to 2″ of rain is expected, but some higher totals are possible.
Although widespread flooding is not expected, forecasters do caution that localized flash flooding is possible.
As of Thursday, October 6, 2022, portions of eastern Orange County remain in a severe drought while all remaining areas of the county remain under a moderate drought. These conditions have been ongoing since July following several heat waves and a prolonged dry spell.
On Sunday, the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation continued a drought watch for Orange County.
