Tonight was an outdoor enthusiasts mecca as the annual Harvest Moon rose over movie night at the Donahue Park in Cornwall-on-Hudson.
Kayakers floated along the shore on the Hudson River while others packed the park in lawn chairs to watch the movie “Ford Versus Ferrari” on a large screen. Temperatures were a comfortable 70 degrees under clear nighttime skies.
The night started with a performance by RJ Storm and Old School, a blueglass band based out of Beacon. They performed in the gazebo during a vivid sunset.
To the west, the Harvest Moon rose over Mount Beacon soon after sunset, illuminating the sky behind the movie screen and giving viewers two treats to watch.

This cycle of the full moon is called the Harvest Moon, also known as the Autumn Moon or the Corn Moon. This year’s Harvest moon is occurring in the summertime because it is closest to the Autumn Equinox.
For those who missed out, Cornwall-on-Hudson has one more movie night scheduled this year. The season finale will be held at Donahue Farm on Route 218 on Saturday, October 15, 2022. The event will feature a bit more than the typical movie night at Donahue Park.
The finale will kick off with Chicken Head Rocks performing live music. Unlike the other events, this will feature a costume contest just in time for Halloween. Quite appropriately, the movie “Ghostbusters Afterlife” will be played.
