A New York State Trooper saved the life of a man trapped in his car in the bottom of a pond in Fishkill. The Newburgh News has obtained dramatic body cam video of the heroic Trooper rescuing the victim.
On August 17, 2022, a driver suffered a medical emergency and accidentally drove into a pond off Westgate Drive in Fishkill. The car was submerged in 15 feet of water and the driver was unconscious inside.
Without hesitation, Trooper Francis W. Rush entered the water, swam across the pond to the vehicle, freed the victim from the submerged car, and pulled him to shore. The victim survived the incident and was treated.
Trooper Rush is assigned to the State Police barracks in Wappingers. He is a Putnam County native who began his Trooper career in 2016.
