A band of torrential downpours has knocked out power to all of Cornwall-on-Hudson, much of eastern New Windsor, and portions of Cornwall.
Blue and green flashes were reported lighting up the sky over eastern New Windsor as a transformer blew during heavy rainfall. The Vail’s Gate Fire Department was dispatched to a reported transformer fire on Forge Hill Road near the entrance to Butterhill Estates at approximately 8:40 pm.
An estimated 2,599 customers are reported to be without power from the outage. Central Hudson is responding to the scene of the transformer fire.
According to data recorded at the Vail’s Gate Weather Tower, 1.06″ of rain fell during the last hour.
Orange County and the surrounding areas remain under a Flood Watch through 5:00 pm tomorrow. The National Weather Service is forecasting 2-4″ of rain with localized amounts of 5″.
