Elevated Risk of Brush Fires Today

There is an elevated risk of wildfire spread today, the National Weather Service’s local office in Upton, NY announced in a Special Weather Statement this morning.

The combination of relative humidity values dropping to 25-30% and frequent wind gusts between 20-25 mph will contribute to an elevated risk of fire spread.

For New York residents, the annual statewide burn ban remains in effect until May 14, 2022. No burn permits are issued during this time frame.

The elevated fire risk includes most of the region, except for the areas that received late-season snowfall earlier this week in Sullivan and western Ulster Counties.
