Child Molester Moves into Local Nursing Home

A level three sex offender who was convicted of molesting two young boys is now moving into a local nursing home.

Joseph Vandermark, age 63, is leaving Port Jervis and moving into the Campbell Hall Rehabilitation Center. The nursing home is located off Route 207 between New Windsor and Goshen.

Vanedermark’s designation as a level three sex offender is the highest risk level that can be assigned, making him a “high risk of repeat offense and a threat to public safety exists,” according to the Department of Criminal Justice.

In 1991, he was arrested by the Port Jervis Police Department and convicted of molesting an 11 year-old boy and a 12 year-old boy, the Department of Criminal Justice noted. The charges included deviate sexual intercourse more than once.

He was sentenced to 2-6 years in the state penitentiary on a felony charge for sexual abuse. He won a parole after serving 3 years and 10 months, public records show.
