Gidney Avenue School Wraps Up ‘Your Future is Bright!’ Program

The Gidney Avenue Memorial School, part of the Newburgh Enlarged City School District, recently wrapped up their weekly “Your Future is Bright” theme.

The events were part of the school’s Social-Emotional Learning Career Explorations Programming. Yesterday marked the final event of the ongoing program.

The purpose of the weekly event was to promote mindsets and behaviors that enhance the learning process and create a culture of college and career readiness for all students grades K-5.

The SEL Career Explorations Programming centers around ASCA Domain/Standards guiding school counseling programs to help students understand the connection between school and work, and to plan for and make a successful transition from school to post secondary education and/or the world of work. This program is an “exploration series” and students were exposed to a variety of careers/trades on a weekly basis.

Guest speakers for the event were Pediatric Dr. Vanessa Vargas-Fajardo, Police Officer Najjah Scott, USPS Postmaster Kevin Tompkins, Communications person Sharif Washington, and Hudson Valley Building & Trades Council President Todd Diorio.
