A City of Newburgh man has been charged with the murder that occurred at Varick Homes on Thursday night.
At approximately 10:20pm on Thursday, March 16, 2023, police received a 911 call to respond to Varick Homes, located near South Street and Water Street in the downtown section of Newburgh.
Officers arrived and found a deceased male inside of a residence with obvious signs of trauma. Police stated the victim was a 76 year-old man, but have not released his identity pending notification of his family.
James L. Rich, age 35 of the City of Newburgh, was arrested and charged with Murder in the 2nd degree, according to a press release issued today by the City of Newburgh Police Department and City Manager Todd Venning.
Rich was arraigned and remanded to Orange County Jail without bail.
