A City of Newburgh man has been arrested at the Fort Bragg Army base in North Carolina and charged with murdering a man in Plattekill, NY.
The New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigations and the United States Army Criminal Investigation Division arrested Junando Dawkins, age 29 of the City of Newburgh, and charged him with shooting a man to death in Plattekill earlier this year.
On January 2, 2023, the State Police responded to the Campbell Drive Extension in Plattekill for a report of a person deceased outside of the residence. Police identified Daniel Spotards, age 41, with multiple gunshot wounds.
Following the homicide investigation, Dawkins was indicted on Murder in the 2nd degree and three counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 2nd degree. New York State Troopers headed to North Carolina and brought Dawkins back to New York State. He was arraigned yesterday and remanded to Ulster County Jail without bail.
The New York State Police thanked the Ulster County Sheriff’s Office and the New York City Police Department for their assistance with the BCI’s investigation.
Dawkins is a financial planner and has also served in the Army in various roles, including a combat medic, budget analyst, and Army Reserve administrator.
