Firefighters Battle Fire at Apartment Complex in Vail’s Gate

Firefighters were busy last night battling the latest fire amid a busy few weeks for local fire companies.

Just before 9:00pm on Sunday, March 5, 2023, the Vail’s Gate Fire Department was dispatched to a reported building fire at 108 Vail’s Gate Heights Drive, which is the site of a portion of the Vail’s Gate Heights Apartments.

According to reports, the New Windsor Police Department was the first to arrive on the scene. Officers used fire extinguishers on the outside siding in attempts to extinguish the blaze.

The Vail’s Gate fire chief arrived and called for the Washingtonville Fire Department to respond with a FAST Team in case any firefighters became trapped inside while battling the fire. New Windsor EMS also staged outside in case anyone was injured.

A large crew of Vail’s Gate firefighters turned out and were able to quickly knock down the fire using hose lines. Firefighters also used a ladder truck to check for any extension in the residences and to overhaul the fire damage.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
