Firefighters Battle Two-Alarm Fire in New Windsor

Firefighters from Vail’s Gate and the City of Newburgh worked together to quickly extinguish a house fire in New Windsor last night.

Just after 8:00pm on Saturday, March 4, 2023, the Vail’s Gate Fire Department was dispatched to a report of a house on fire at 179 Riley Road, located between Route 94 and the New Windsor Water Plant. The fire was in a 1,320 square foot house containing three bedrooms.

The incident commander arrived on the scene to discover an active house fire. He transmitted a second alarm.

The City of Newburgh Fire Department was called to the scene with a pumper. The Washingtonville Fire Department responded with a FAST Team to stand by outside in case any firefighters became trapped inside.

The crews of firefighters were able to knock down the fire in just 20 minutes. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The New Windsor Fire Department stood by to cover any additional calls in Vail’s Gate’s fire district.
