Newburgh Symphony Announces Concert Combining Music, Colors, Art

The Greater Newburgh Symphony Orchestra (GNSO) announced they will perform a spectacular concert next month featuring the works of four composers exploring the interplay of music and color.

The concert, titled “Luminosity,” will be performed at Aquinas Hall on the Mount Saint Mary College campus in the City of Newburgh on Saturday, March 18, 2023, beginning at 4:00pm. The concert will be under the direction of Maestro Russell Ger.

“As sophisticated as our human languages are, they fall dramatically short when it comes to describing sensory experiences such as taste, sound and sight,” Ger noted. “So we are forced to borrow from other parts of language. In music, this is often from the visual medium of color which, in turn, is the theme of this program.”

Ger said, “An added bonus will be our uniquely exciting collaboration with a local Orange County visual artist, Heidi Lanino, who will join me in conversation before the program and then paint a canvas for each work in real time in response to the music. These may be auctioned off at a later date.”

Tickets for senior citizens are just $25. Open seating is $35, reserved is $40, and balcony seats are $50. Students are admitted into the open seating for free. Tickets can be purchased at the door, online at www.NewburghSymphony.org, or by calling (845) 913-7157.
