Fourth grade students at the Balmville Elementary School in the Newburgh Enlarged City School District recently collaborated on a science project and created formal presentations which their family members viewed.
The students worked together to support one another in understanding science concepts, nonfiction text features, and what a formal presentation style should look and sound like. They paired up and selected an animal to conduct research on. After selecting an animal, they enjoyed collaborating on learning about the life cycle, habitats, and adaptations of the animal.
During the course of the students’ research, they had discussions about the various information that they read about.
After supporting one another in building background knowledge on the animal, the pupils then created a poster board presentation to display what they learned. Students applied their understanding by writing nonfiction books, which included nonfiction text features.
Families were invited to view the formal presentations.
