Mount Students Raise Lenten Cross

Mount Saint Mary College’s Dominican Scholars of Hope (DSH) aided Fr. Greg Fluet, campus chaplain and Director of Campus Ministry, in setting up the Lenten Cross outside of the college’s Chapel of the Most Holy Rosary on Wednesday, February 22, 2023.

Wednesday marked the beginning of Lent, the 40-day period that precedes Easter. Lent is a holy season observed by many sects of Christianity, including Catholicism.

Rooted in the values of the Judeo-Christian and Dominican heritage of the college, DSH is a nonacademic living and learning community for highly motivated Mount students. The DSH program is spearheaded by Charles Zola, assistant to the President for Mission Integration, director of the Mount’s Catholic and Dominican Institute, and associate professor of Philosophy.

Along with Zola and Fr. Fluet, the DSH students aiding at the event were Emily Alta of Newburgh, N.Y.; Sean Ocasio of Monroe, N.Y.; Thomas Sullivan of Monroe, N.Y.; and Roselyn Vaquero of Newburgh, N.Y.
