Gidney Avenue Students Present Research to their Families, Friends

Students at the Gidney Avenue Memorial School in the Newburgh Enlarged City School District recently conducted research projects and presented the results to their families and fellow students.

Students in Jennifer Matula’s and Anna Kover’s class presented research to their families and fellow students from their choice of hands-on projects. The students spent several weeks conducting collaborative research and followed up with independent research at home.

Matula and Koever collaborated with the school librarian to deepen their students’ knowledge of non-fiction text features and explore resources through their Launchpad. In class, the students worked with each other to explore research questions related to animal adaptations. The pupils then brought these skills home and worked with their families to create displays to present.

Students chose between digital brochures, informative posters and 3D dioramas. They also chose to present in English, Spanish or both languages. They practiced their speaking and listening skills to prepare for presentation day.

Parents visited the classroom to watch the presentations and to offer feedback.
