Mary Jane’s Dairy Bar to Rebuild Following Crash

Mary Jane’s Dairy Bar in the Town of Newburgh had some optimistic words for the community today: They will be rebuild and come back better than ever!

On Saturday, an accused drunken driver traveling northbound on Route 9W plowed lost control of her vehicle and plowed into the popular ice cream stand in the Middlehope section of the Town of Newburgh. The Newburgh News reported the crash live as it happened (story here).

Shayane Reynolds, age 29 of Poughkeepsie, was arrested following the crash (story here). Police said she was driving drunk and her driver’s license had already been revoked from a previous drunken driving arrest. She was charged with felony DWI, ticketed, and released. She sustained minor injuries in the wreck.

“The outpouring of community support has been overwhelming and very much appreciated,” Mary Jane’s representatives wrote. “From the bottom of our hearts, we thank you for your love and support.”

The owners plan to rebuild the popular ice cream stand and re-open soon.

“MJ’s will be back and better than ever!” they wrote. “We will keep all of our patrons posted for an adjusted opening date. We can’t wait to have you all with us again soon!”

Representatives from Mary Jane’s Dairy Bar also wished to thank the first responders and community members who rushed to the scene to help. The Middlehope Fire Department responded to the accident and promptly began stabilizing the building. Upon their arrival, the car was still inside while several walls, windows, and the foundation had crumbled to the ground.

The Middlehope Fire Department stated they are “very happy Mary Jane’s Dairy Bar is on its way to a solid recovery.”

Meanwhile, Mary Jane’s representatives have one last message for their customers: “Rest assured that Mary Jane’s will continue to be your local favorite for years to come.”
