Fifth grade students at the Vail’s Gate Elementary School, part of the Newburgh Enlarged City School District, were surprised by a Starbucks themed “book tasting” party earlier this week.
Students in Leah Kelleher’s and Shannon Zaloga’s Integrated Co-Teaching classes arrived at school to find their classroom had been transformed into a Starbucks themed cafe to start off a new unit of American Reading Company which focuses on “Adventure Genre.” Kelleher and Zaloga were both dressed as Starbucks baristas.
The first book on the menu was Storm Runners, which is the core text of the class. Students then got to “taste” a variety of books at their independent reading level. The pupils had the option to choose an adventure book they were interested in to read independently.
During the “tasting,” students were able to sip on a complimentary featured drink; the “Adventurccino.”
