A student from the Heritage Middle School in the Newburgh Enlarged City School District won first place in the New York Association for Pupils local chapter’s poster contest and will now advance to a statewide competition. This marks the second consecutive that Newburgh has produced a first place winner.

Heritage Middle School sixth grader, Jack Horton, took home first place honors and $25 cash for his poster entry.

School Bus Safety Poster Contest in partnership with the New York State Education Department and in accordance with guidelines and rules set out by the American School Bus Council (ASBC) National School Bus Safety Poster Contest. New York State judging took place during the Winter Workshop earlier this month.

The poster contest is not intended to be a competition as much as it is a learning opportunity for student riders about school bus safety.  This year’s poster theme was “Safely Rolling to My Destination”.

Newburgh School District Transportation Director, Patricia Coyne, presented Horton with his certificate and winnings. Horton won the competition for the local chapter of the NYAPT. The local chapter submitted its winners to the NYAPT state competition. Those winners will be chosen at an upcoming workshop.
