A local icon from the popular Jones Farm in Cornwall has passed away.
Commonly known as “Grandma” by her customers and the community alike, Doris May Jones Clearwater has passed away at 95 years young, Jones Farm has announced. She was surrounded by her family when she passed away peacefully at home.
Clearwater lived in her home at the farm on Angola Road for 73 years. She and her late husband built the home together. Three generations of her family have helped run the farm over the years.
Jones Farm first opened in 1914 when John and Alice Jones purchased the property from a direct descendant of Oliver Cromwell. One of their sons, Raymond, and his wife Gladys, were the parents of Doris. Belding F. Clearwater would later wed Doris and the couple lived together on the farm.
The family first operated the property as dairy farm before going into the egg and poultry business. Over the years, Jones Farm has grown to include a country store, bakery, cafe, fresh produce, pumpkins, an art gallery, and a gift shop.
“It was not always easy running a family business, but for Doris it was a labor of love,” Jones Farm wrote in a statement. “Jones Farm was her lifelong home and her greatest joy was sharing it with her family and the community. Her love for the land and strong work ethic has been passed down to her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, and we will strive to carry on her legacy.”
Clearwater leaves behind three sons, six grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. Her obituary will be forthcoming.
“Please remember her smiling behind the counter, offering a sample of fudge, or instructing on the proper amount of rhubarb needed for a pie,” a Jones Farm representative stated.
