Refreshments, Wood Chips to be Served for Used Christmas Trees

City of Newburgh residents wishing to dispose of their used Christmas trees will be rewarded with free refreshments and a bag of wood chips.

The Christmas tree recycling program will be held on Saturday, January 7, 2023, from 9:00am to 12:00pm, at the City of Newburgh Recreation Center at 401 Washington Street.

Those dropping off their old Christmas trees will be treated to free hot chocolate and donuts. The Department of Public Works will then chip the Christmas trees. The Conservation Advisory Council will give the donors a bag full of wood chips, which can be used as winter beds for neighborhood trees.

Those who cannot make the January 7 event can still drop off their Christmas trees beginning tomorrow – December 27, 2022. However, wood chips, hot chocolate and donuts are only being provided during the January 7 event.

Of course, all decorations must be removed from Christmas trees before turning them in.

The recycling program is being co-sponsored by the City of Newburgh Conservation Advisory Council and the City of Newburgh Department of Public Works.
