Community Leader Awarded by Newburgh Town Board

A well-known leader in the Town of Newburgh community has been recognized for many years of community service.

The Newburgh Town Board issued a proclamation to Anita Manley for her many years of community service during a recent meeting.

Manley served as a Commissioner of the Orange County Human Rights Commission for six years. In addition, she served as a Patient Navigator for the American Cancer Society for ten years.

As if that isn’t enough, Manley co-founded the Town of Newburgh’s Friends of Seniors Program and has served as its coordinator for over a decade. She oversees the work of trained volunteers in providing older adults with transportation to and from local appointments, assisting with grocery shopping, conducting visits to homebound seniors, participating in telephone conversations, providing clerical aide, and referring residents to needed services.

In her “spare” time, Manley founded the first Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG) local chapter in New Paltz over 30 years ago. She assisted in the formation of two additional PFLAG groups in Middletown and Newburgh. She has served as the Facilitator for the Newburgh PFLAG group.

Manley has also served as a Community Specialist for the New York State Civil Service Employee Association (CSEA).

In 2019, Manley earned the New York State Commendation Award. In 2016, she received the 2016 Kiwanis Everyday Hero Award.

Manley has devoted her personal time, energy, and expertise to helping others and
continues to make lasting contributions.

In addition to receiving the Newburgh Town Board Proclamation, Manley received a Certificate of Recognition from the Orange County Office of the Aging for her service to the
community. Her family and friends were on hand for the presentation.
