Volunteer firefighters from multiple departments converged on the scene of a two-alarm house fire near the Washingtonville and New Windsor border late last night.
Just before 11:00pm, the Washingtonville Fire Department was dispatched to a reported garage fire at 12 Canterbury Circle, located off Toleman Road in the outskirts of Washingtonville. Toleman Road connects Little Britain Road in New Windsor with Washingtonville. The house, which was most recently purchased just over two years ago, is a two story, four bedroom dwelling measuring 2,421 square feet.
The incident commander arrived on the scene to discover that the house was fully engulfed in flames. He transmitted a second alarm, summonsing help from multiple nearby departments.
The Coldenham Fire Department responded with a FAST Team, which is a specially trained team tasked with rescuing any firefighters who become injured or trapped inside. Blooming Grove EMS was also called to the scene in case any firefighters were hurt while battling the inferno.
The Salisbury Mills Fire Department responded with two pumpers. The Vail’s Gate Fire Department rushed into Washingtonville with a ladder truck. The Cornwall, South Blooming Grove, and Chester Fire Departments also responded with one pumper apiece.
The Campbell Hall Fire Department stood by to cover any additional calls in Washingtonville.
Firefighters spent over an hour attempting to bring the blaze under control. Several additional hours were spent on extinguishing hot spots and overhauling the remnants of the house. There is no word on any injuries.
