Balmville School Nurse Nominated as Class Aunt

Students in Waleska Rayford’s class at the Balmville Elementary School in the Newburgh Enlarged City School District decided they wanted to honor someone they hold close to their hearts recently.

The decision was easy for this class as they selected School Nurse Gretchen Quill, affectionately known as Nurse “G”, as their “Class Auntie”. Rayford’s class walked down the hall to Nurse G’s office and asked her if she would accept their nomination.

When the students were asked why they chose Nurse G some of the answers were:  “She always takes care of us”; “Even in our darkest moments she makes us smile”; “The colors she wears represent happiness”; and “She’s a beautiful person.”

Rayford added, “Many people talk to children and say the things they think children need to hear, but Nurse G gives the children what they need with her actions. She shows them love daily.”

The children welcomed Nurse G to their classroom where they greeted her with a group hug. As a token of her appreciation, she presented them all with light-up holiday headbands. Nurse G spent a few moments with the class and their spirits were lifted as she spoke to each of them.  She took a few minutes to join them in their dance to Waka Waka.

Before Nurse G left to go back to her office, the class took a moment to thank her for all she does.
