Students at the Balmville Elementary School in the Newburgh Enlarged City School District were paid a visit by two special guests on Friday.
City of Newburgh Councilwoman Giselle Martinez and Orange County Legislator Genesis Ramos stopped by to speak to students in Ms. Lopez and Ms. Corbett’s fifth grade class. Each of the elected officials shared their individual journeys as Hispanic women and the challenges they faced.
Martinez and Ramos spoke of their passion for the Newburgh community and their motivation to make changes they wanted to see when they were younger.
The children were engaged and had many questions for the two special guests, who spoke in English and Spanish.
