Members of the Stewart Air National Guard Base in the Town of Newburgh recently visited with bilingual students at the Gidney Avenue Memorial School.
Master Sergeant Tony Alvardo and his brother, Staff Sergeant Osvaldo Alvarado, paid a visit Gissel Gil-Arias’ bilingual kindergarten class. Both men are former bilingual students from GAMS. They are also the sons of Angelica Fiscal, a teaching assistant at the school.
The students eagerly listed as the Alvarado brothers read a book entitled “La bandera estadounidense.” The pupils also learned about the flag and other American symbols.
Following the book reading, the students asked the soldiers questions and thanked them for their service.
