Freshman students at Mount Saint Mary College were introduced to resources on campus through an interactive scavenger hunt held recently.
Faculty and staff put together the scavenger hunt to familiarize students with the offices and people on campus, while hoping to create memorable experiences through team-based activities.
Fifteen teams of students were created, and then sent out to find five different locations on campus. Once located, the teams completed an activity before moving on to the next location. These activities consisted of: Tangrams with Math & IT, blood pressure measurements with Nursing, a tour and hunt in the colleges Whittaker Hall building, making a citation out of Legos with the Library and Writing Center, and taking a selfie with Mack, the college’s knight mascot, in the Office of Student Success. Following that, students returned to the atrium for an ice cream social.
The scavenger hunt was coordinated by professors in Mathematics and IT, Natural and Social Sciences, and Philosophy and Religious Studies; as well as academic coaches and librarians.
The First Year Experience program cultivates community-based learning, academic success, the personal development necessary for college life, and a connection to the Mount as first-year students become active members in our community of learners.
