Robert H. Peel, Sr. of Newburgh, NY entered into eternal rest on September 30, 2022. He was 100 years old.
He was born to the late Henry Benton and Effie Lena Peel. Robert was born on April 12, 1922 in Weatherford, TX. Soon after his birth his family moved to Post, Texas after his father purchased a farm. Soon after graduating from high school, he moved to California where he briefly worked at an airplane factory.
After leaving California, Robert returned to Texas where he volunteered to join the United States Army Corps. He served in the Burma, China, India Theatre during WWII. While stationed at Stewart Field in Newburgh, he met the love of his life, Anna Cimorelli during a USO dance. They were married on June 30, 1946. After working in the same place for 35 years, he and a partner opened up a business, S&R Electronics of Newburgh.
He is survived by his son, Robert H. Peel, Jr and his wife Mary of Newburgh, NY. He had 5 grandchildren Della Vondras and her husband Peter of Newburgh, NY; Jessica Faraone and her husband Jeremy of Marlboro, NY; Michael Peel and Noel, his significant other, of Rockland County NY; Michelle Peel and her partner, Brynne Greene of Newburgh; and John Peel and his wife Kimberly of Walden. In addition, he was survived by 11 great-grandchildren: Jordan Peel and his wife Kristina; Kathryn Vondras; Michala Vondras; McKenzie Vondras; Joseph Peel; Chloe Torres-Diaz; Kael Torres-Diaz; Julia Schuetz; Jaxon Faraone; Adriana Hedden; and Alexandra Peel. He is also survived by great-great grandchildren Olivia Albertelli and Braden Peel.
In addition, Robert is survived by his sister, Juanita (Nita) Coleman of Texas, and brother-in-law Charles Cimorelli.
The family wished to give a special thanks to his sister-in-law, Antoinette Wida for all of her help during the last seven years of his life.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife Anna and siblings Vonnie Lee (Punk) Peel, Lucille Thomas, Inez Thommars, and Lonnie Peel.
In lieu of flowers, donations are being accepted by www.familyfocusadoption.org who was instrumental in the adoptions of all five of his grandchildren.
The family would like to thank Veterans Affairs and Hospice of Orange County, who were both a tremendous help in the late days of Robert’s life.
Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. on Wednesday, October 5 at Brooks Funeral Home, 481 Gidney Ave., Newburgh. A service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, October 6 at the funeral home.
