A young man has died after jumping off the Newburgh-Beacon Bridge and landing on the shore just before 10:00pm last night.
Multiple agencies responded to the bridge for a report of a person who jumped. According to the New York State Police, a 23 year-old Cornwall man exited his vehicle on the eastbound lane of the bridge and jumped from the right shoulder.
Police reported that the young man was found deceased in a grassy area beneath the bridge. The City of Newburgh and Middlehope Fire Departments worked to extricate the man from the area.
The Town of Newburgh Police Department and the New Hamburg Fire Department from Dutchess County also assisted.
The victim’s name has not yet been released.
