Town of New Windsor officials helped bag groceries at ShopRite in Vail’s Gate today for a good cause.
Members of the Town Board, Recreation Department, and other town agencies visited ShopRite to volunteer their time to bag customers’ groceries to heighten the public’s awareness of hunger.
ShopRite’s Help Bag Hunger Day, which is part of their ongoing Partners in Caring Program, is a year-round, community-based, hunger-fighting initiative that works with more than 50 food industry manufacturers to provide $3 million annually to qualified charitable agencies in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Delaware, Maryland and Pennsylvania — all the states where ShopRite stores operate. Since its inception in 1999, ShopRite Partners In Caring has donated $43 million to more than 2,100 charities.
ShopRite Partners In Caring supports emergency food pantries, soup kitchens, homeless shelters, child care centers, battered women’s shelters, senior citizen programs, drug rehab centers, programs for the mentally and physically disabled, after-school programs and other organizations that aid those in need. It was established in 2002.
Every year, community leaders and local celebrity baggers attend the Help Bag Hunger Day at various ShopRite stores.
New Windsor Recreation Director Matt Veronesi stated, “ShopRite does so much for the community, especially through their Partners In Caring Program, and we were all honored to come out today to show our support for this amazing program.”
