Firefighters Respond to Smoke in Building at Ambulance Corp

First responders were called to help their own this afternoon when smoke in the building caused a scare that the Town of Newburgh EMS station might be on fire.

The Winona Lake Fire Department, Orange Lake Fire Department, and an Orange County Deputy Fire Coordinator were all dispatched to the ambulance bay on South Plank Road at 4:47 pm. The emergency call came in that there was smoke in the building and the sprinkler system had automatically activated.

Firefighters arrived on scene and investigated the cause. It was determined that the air conditioning unit leaked onto a light fixture. Fire crews made the scene safe and went back in service.
