Lee B. Murphy, 98, entered into rest on April 30, 2023.
On May 15, 1924, Lena “Lee” Borella was born on Irving Avenue in Brooklyn. She was the daughter of Alexander Borella and Mary Parenti Borella. Lee was one of three siblings, who together with their parents, moved from Brooklyn to Newburgh.
A 1942 graduate of Newburgh Free Academy and a member of Alpha Zeta Beta Sorority, Lee received an Academic in Art Diploma. She was a very creative person, who was intensely proud of her Italian heritage.
After graduation, Lee worked at Dupont, until she accepted a secretarial position at Firth Carpet Company. She met her future husband, Horace M. Murphy, at Firth. They were married in St. Patrick’s Church, built their beloved home, and raised a family in the Town of Newburgh. They enjoyed traveling, antiquing, and spending time together on their terrace, with family and friends. Lee and Horace joyfully celebrated 73 years of marriage, until Horace’s death in 2022.
Lee was retired from the Town of Newburgh Water Department. She was also a member of the local Home Demonstration Club.
With her death, Lee leaves behind her children: Susan M. Cadzow and husband, Tom, of Cape Cod; Carol M. Steiler and husband, Dave, of Rhode Island; Michael Murphy and wife, Linda, of New Jersey; Five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Horace, and both of her siblings. Lee will be greatly missed and always loved, by her family and all who knew her.
