Richard A. Hovey, age 89 of New Windsor, passed away while surrounded by his family on Sunday, April 23, 2023.
Born on June 4, 1933, he was the son of the late Clarence and Laura (Bone) Hovey of Tupper Lake, NY. He served in the United States Navy from October 1951 to October 1955 during the Korean War. He retired from Central Hudson Gas and Electric after 37 years serving as a Supervisor at Danskammer and Roseton Power plants.
He was a life member of the Orange County Volunteer Firefighters Association and a Life Member of Vail’s Gate Fire Company, serving more than 50 years. He served as Chief from 1973-1975. Richard was dedicated to community service and well known for helping community members in need.
Richard married the love of his life, Patricia (Joly) Hovey in October 1954 and they were married for 68 years, together for 69. Together, he and Pat were active member of St. Joseph’s Church in New Windsor.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Patricia M. Hovey; children Michael (Lori) Hovey of Colorado, Richard S. (Kathleen) Hovey of New Windsor, NY, and Doug (Julie) Hovey of Newburgh, NY; Grandchildren Kimberly, Emily, Sam, Ryan and Laura.
The family would like to thank the staff at Castle Point VA Hospital and The Kaplan Family Hospice Residence for their compassion and support.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the Kaplan Family Hospice Residence.
Memorial visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. on Thursday, April 27 at Brooks Funeral Home, 481 Gidney Ave., Newburgh. A Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 28 at St. Marianne Cope Parish (St. Thomas of Canterbury), Cornwall. Burial with military honors will follow in Orange County Veteran’s Cemetery, Goshen.
