Olivia “Dollie” Leibowitz, of the Town of Newburgh, entered into rest on Wednesday, April 5, 2023. She was 106.
Daughter of the late Pleasant and Woodie (Miller) Hendricks, she was born August 1, 1916 in Milwaukee, WI, and moved with her family to Nashville, TN early in life.
She met and married Harold Leibowitz in 1944 in Tennessee and they relocated to Newburgh in 1946. Olivia, was a retired Administrative Secretary for St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital, Newburgh, where she continued to volunteer after retirement. She was a longtime member of the Moulton Memorial Baptist Church where she served as the Church Clerk for 30 years and was President of its Beta Eta Society. Along with her husband, she volunteered with the YMCA and Habitat for Humanity, among others.
For her 105th birthday, Olivia was honored at a party held at the Desmond Center where the Town Supervisor declared the day as “Dollie Leibowitz Day.” Her advice to the crowd was “Be kind to people. Love people. I would like to see our world come back to love and respect for mankind.”
Survivors include her sister, Edna Weinheim of New Windsor; niece, Carolyn Pacenza of New Windsor; nephew, Stephen (Barbara) Weinheim of Willow Springs, N.C.; and many nieces and nephews, great nieces nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her husband Harold Leibowitz in 1990; four brothers, Pleasant G., John, Paul and Harry Hendricks; niece Linda Spreer and nephew Sidney Weinheim.
Visitation for family and friends will be from 10:00 am to 12:00 noon on Saturday, April 8, 2023, at the Moulton Memorial Baptist Church, 54 Old Little Britain Road, Newburgh, NY 12550. A service will be held at 12:00 noon at the church.
