Multiple Fire Departments Save Verizon Building in Cornwall

Multiple fire departments quickly knocked down a fire inside the Verizon building in the Town of Cornwall.

Shortly after 3:30pm, the Cornwall Fire Department was dispatched to a fire alarm at the Verizon store located at 305 Main Street. Firefighters arrived to find heavy smoke coming from the building.

The incident commander has summonsed help from multiple fire departments. The Vail’s Gate Fire Department is on the scene with a FAST Team, which is tasked with rescuing any firefighters who may become injured or trapped inside. The Cornwall-on-Hudson Fire Department and West Point Fire Department both responded with pumpers.

Firefighters made their way through the heavy smoke to locate a large battery pack that was on fire. They knocked down the bulk of the fire and are continuing to ventilate the building.

The New Windsor Volunteer Ambulance Corp is on the scene standing by.
