Peter V. Stagg died on March 29, 2023, at age 92, as he wished, peacefully at home in the Town of Newburgh, surrounded by family.
Born in 1931 at home in Wallington, NJ, to Peter and Mary (Lishnak) Stagg, Peter was a graduate of Lodi High School in Lodi, NJ. He worked for The Ford Motor Company in Mahwah, NJ, until the plant closed in 1980. He was married for 62 years to Gale (Champury) Stagg, who survives him. He was a lifelong reader and had a significant interest in and knowledge of geography and history, particularly the U.S. Civil War and World War II.
He is survived by three children and their spouses (Nancy Stagg and Charles Bethel of San Diego, CA; Kevin and Kathleen Stagg of Stratford, CT; and Peter and Kim Stagg of Wallkill, NY), His granddaughter, Amanda Stagg of Wallkill, NY; His sister, Alice Van Eenennaam of Passaic, NJ; and numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, brothers William and Joseph Stagg; His sister, Mary Lane; his niece, Mary Ann Halkard; his brother-in-law, Pfc Wilfred Lane, U.S. Army, who died in Italy in 1943 defending our freedom.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Reed, St. Luke’s Hospital, and Hospice of Orange & Sullivan Counties for their care of Peter, whose care allowed him to remain at home as he desired. The family also wishes to thank all the family, friends, and neighbors who helped over the past few years.
